Key idea
Flare leggings fit through the upper leg and widen below the knee, so inseam and footwear matter more than on tapered leggings.
What matters
- Best for: casual outfits and balanced proportions with fitted or structured tops.
- Watch for: hem drag and shoe height.
Inseam becomes a footwear measurement
With tapered leggings, a little extra length may simply bunch at the ankle. A flare can touch the floor, hide the shoe or become a trip and wear problem. Measure the inseam while wearing the shoe height you expect to use most often.
Check where the flare begins
- A flare beginning close to the knee creates a different silhouette from a gradual bootcut.
- The knee of the garment should align reasonably with your knee so the widening starts where intended.
- If you alternate between flats and platforms, one inseam may not work equally well with both.
Use this in practice
Compare measurements, construction, care instructions and composition with the way the pair actually behaves in wear. No single marketing term describes the whole garment.
